     Former MLB Hitting Coach

Coaching Experience:

The former Tigers outfielder returns for his third season as the club's hitting coach, a position he was named to on October 9, 2002. He has managed Grand Canyon in the Arizona Fall League following the 2004 season, leading the club to an 18-17 record. . Joined Detroit's coaching staff after managing Triple A Toledo in both 2001 and 2002...led the Mud Hens to the International League's West Division championship in 2002, compiling an 81-63 record. He has managed four seasons at Single A West Michigan 1997-2000, guiding the Whitecaps to either first or second place in seven of the eight halves he managed. He was named the Midwest League's Manager of the Year in 2000, leading West Michigan to an 88-52 record. He led the Whitecaps to the Midwest League championship in 1998, garnering the Dwight Lowry Award as the Tigers Player Development Man of the Year.

Playing Experience:

In 1997, he led the Whitecaps to the best record in minor league baseball, 92-39 under his direction, West Michigan owned the best winning percentage, .646, in minor league baseball over the 1997-98 seasons. He served as the manager of Single A Jamestown during the 1995 and 1996 campaigns he began his managerial career after coaching with Double A London in 1992 and Toledo in 1993-94. He played 14 seasons of professional baseball after being selected in the seventh round of the June 1978 draft by the Tigers...spent the majority of his career in the minors, seeing major league action with Detroit in 1986 and Seattle in 1988-89. He won three batting titles during his career, all at the minor league level -- hit .351 to lead the Pacific Coast League in 1989, led the American Association with a .368 batting average in 1986 and topped the Southern League in 1985 with a .323 batting average. Along with Jeff Jones, Triple A Toledo's pitching coach, they operate The Bullpen Baseball/Softball Academy in Farmington, MI.

He Graduated from Everett High School in Lansing attended Lansing Community College before signing with the Tigers organization.

He, his wife, Julie, and two sons, Aaron and Daniel, reside in Detroit, MI during the off-season.
